Los Gigantes Life
In Los Gigantes life revolves around the Marina, The Plaza, and the Avenida Maritima main street.The roads in Los Gigantes are very narrow; with a one-way system operating throughout most of the village. Los Guios is a small, clean, black sand beach. It is rarely crowded and great for children. Parking around the beach/marina area can however be a problem.
There is a marina next to the public beach. Here you will find many different bars and restaurants overlooking the boats and the island of La Gomera. Here you can book scuba diving, or a trip to see bottle-nosed dolphins and whales, fishing trips, jet skis, a kayak trip, etc. The Plaza is pedestrianized and based around the church. You can find a small tourist information kiosk on the roundabout heading down the hill towards the marina.
You can discover several pool complexes in Los Gigantes, with large bathing areas, snack bars, and a natural pools. Oasis club has a pool with water slides, lawns, and a bar/restaurant. There is also a walkway down to the rocks and sea. Between Los Gigantes an Santiago del Teide you will find Crab Island (Isla Cangrejo). It has a natural pool thatfill regularly by the sea waves and tides. The Tipsy Terrace has a swimming pool, lawns, tennis courts, a mini golf course, a restaurant, and a bar.
Geology of Los Gigantes
Because of their enormous height, the cliffs of Los Gigantes represent a unique geological formation. However, there are some ravines, such as El Natero, Juan López, Barranco Seco, or the famous Barranco de Masca; that favor the appearance of a gravel beach.
The seabed at the site is only 30 meters deep. As a result, it is rich in flora and fauna, attracting fishermen, tourists, and divers. On the other hand, due to erosion, these walls are darker in color, with solidified lava in the curved sections.
The Village of Masca
Masca is a small mountain village on the island of Tenerife. It was originally a Guanche settlement before the Spanish conquest in 1496. The village is now home to around 90 inhabitants. The village is at an altitude of 650 m in the Macizo de Teno mountains, which extend up to the northwesternmost point of Tenerife.
The village lies at the head of the Masca Gorge surrounded by palm trees and cypresses. The trail from the village down the gorge to the beach on the Atlantic Ocean is a popular, though strenuous, hiking route, which takes about 3 hours each way.
Barranco de Masca: Masca Gorge
The famous Masca Gorge is a narrow valley in the northwest of the island of Tenerife. The gorge is situated within the Teno Massif. The gorge is a popular tourist destination due to its dramatic scenery and unique geology. An eight-kilometer-long walking trail begins at Masca village and continues for the length of the gorge to finish at Masca beach (Spanish: Playa de Masca), approximately ten kilometers from the northwest tip of Tenerife.
